The Packaging Ink Joint Industry Task (PIJITF) encompasses all members of the food packaging chain, and includes representatives from the printing ink industry, packaging manufacturers and food producers.
It was established as an immediate response to Rapid Alerts reporting the transfer of ink ingredients from printed packaging into packed food.
The twin underlying goals of all involved in the food packaging chain are the production of safely packaged food and the maintenance of high levels of consumer confidence in food safety. To this end, the Task Force’s objective is to create a model process for the transfer of information up and down the supply chain.
The PIJITF issued an “Explanatory Note on the Assessment of Migration Potential from Food Packaging Inks and its Dependency on the Packaging Structure”. This document can be found on the website of the hosting association FoodDrinkEurope.
